Frances Innes is a Scottish painter of the natural environment. Seascapes being her favourite subject also the beaches, cliffs, horizons, moors and trees of Scotland. She lives and paints on the north east coast of Scotland (most easterly point in mainland Scotland) where she works in her third floor studio.
"Aberdeenshire is the ideal location for me with its proximity to the sea, its big skies and amazing east coast light. I walk along the shore most days in all weathers. Although a five minute walk away, I can see the sea from my rooftop studio. I am especially attracted to the changing light on the sea and menacing skies. On my daily walks I can note the colour changes, depending on the weather and the seasons. In spring/summer, bright greens and blue skies are prevalent. But in autumn, ochre, umber and gold take over. In winter, grey dominates, grey isn't boring though, with green tinges, blue and pink tones.
The sea colours vary from day to day especially in stormy weather so never a dull walk.
I used to collect stones, shells and dried seaweed etc but now I tend to just take photos and leave nature undisturbed".
